The Character of God Controversy:
A close look at the intense love and justice of God Almighty

By Steve Wohlberg & Chris Lewis

What people are saying:

Wohlberg & Lewis have clearly, biblically, honestly, yet kindly, dealt head-on with the apparent dichotomy between God's justice and His mercy. Their total immersion into the agonizing sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins makes the book full of love, grace, and power. After reading it, you will agree with those standing on the sea of glass: "Just and true are Your ways, King of Saints!" (Rev. 19:3)

--Bill Krick, Director of California Youth Rush

In the course of the great controversy Satan has pitted God’s justice against His love. In heaven he told the angels that God was too just to forgive. Now many are teaching that God is too loving to destroy. The Character of God Controversy reveals – in the light of the cross – that God’s justice did not spare His own Son but His love gave Him up for us all (Romans 8:32). A must read for those who are seeking a better understanding of God’s character in these last days.

-- Pastor Stephen Bohr, Director of Secrets Unsealed

The Character of God Controversy is a timely and much needed work that reveals the true nature and balance of God’s justice of mercy. Many sincere people have fallen into one of two ditches on either side of the track of truth; either presenting God as a cruel vindictive ruler, or as a God so loving that He never administers justice. This book will put and keep its readers squarely on the track of truth.

-- Pastor Ivor Myers, Power of the Lamb Ministries

The pendulum of popular opinion on the character of God has swung away from the “fire and brimstone” extreme to the present vision of a benign being that is too kind to risk causing us pain by punishing sin. This book corrects the current fallacies without going back to the other extreme.

-- Robert Ford, M.D.

In their exploration of God’s love, mercy, and justice, Steve Wohlberg and Chris Lewis provide solid biblical evidence that God’s wrath is more than a passive abandonment of sinners to their fate—though that is included. God’s active wrath in dealing with sin and sinners is not a contradiction of divine love. The biblical evidence reveals that God’s wrath is a manifestation of His love. This book makes a significant contribution to the current debate over God’s character.

--Marvin Moore, Editor, Signs of the Times

This huge question about the character of God is very real, because most of us Christians (regardless of denomination) have a doctored image of Jesus. We practice “Jesus-ol-atry,” creating our personal “image” of God/Jesus and bowing down to it. Most wince when we hear that God might be a Supreme Deity of justice and Divine retribution. Unacceptable, we declare! Often, rather than quietly coming to grips with that aspect of Divinity and what it might mean for us today on a personal basis, we make excuses. I suspect that after a careful examination of this book, it will leave most (if not all) of us feeling at least a tad uncomfortable. And yet – thank the Lord! – it also offers a heavenly solution for our guilt and sin.

-- Lonnie Melashenko, Speaker/Director of the Voice of Prophecy

The Character of God Controversy is a book that is long overdue. In a time when people run to extremes, this book expounds a balanced portrayal of God’s character. Many do not understand that all truth, as found in His word, is held in a divine-tension of seeming contradictions. This is seen in such attributes as justice and mercy; law and grace; love and hate. Trying to reconcile these seemly contradictory terms has caused confusion for some who seek to know God. This book is written in such a way that it will inspire those who seek deeper exegetical study, yet at the same time is “user friendly” for the layman.
